She's So Outrageous!

Halloween is just around the corner, and I've been thinking about costumes. This year I believe I've stuck gold with my idea. I will be...drumroll....Anna Nicole Smith before TrimSpa!
Think:

Annie and li'l bro Nick will be in town from Marysville. Mimi and maybe Megan will join us for a costume party. They have awesome costumes too, but I will not spoil the surprise now. There will be pictures.

Project Runway

I'm mad at Bravo/iTunes, and I'll tell you why.

I don't pay for cable, so I don't get the Bravo channel. This mean no Project Runway. No Project Runway?!? I KNOW!! My coping strategy was to purchase season 3 from iTunes. I downloaded and watched episodes 1-13. In the process I saw that episode 14 of 15 was added to the iTunes store. I downloaded and watched it, but the very last episode still wasn't available. I figured that this was because the last one had not yet aired, so I went to Bravo's website to see when it would be on and when it would be available for download. On the opening page of Project Runway it said "Congratulations to Season 3 winner [CENSORED]!" They spoiled it for me! I had invested ~11 hrs. only to have it blown before the last episode. Bummer.

Obituary

Last weekend our little buddy was laid to rest. He was tragically struck by a vehicle. Jakie was a quirky little neurotic sort of dog. He fancied himself huge and powerful, and he wore scars from many battles. There will never be another like him. The Bean was with us for a decade, and he will be dearly missed.

I Live In Johnson County Now

One night last week I decided to visit the natural foods store just to browse. I like to see the strange selection of products they carry like raspberry/green tea soda (which is yummy, by the way). While in the check-out line, the cashier asked the couple in front of me if they found everything ok. The guy answered, "Yeah mostly, but there is a brand of water we like that you don't carry." Wow. It was all I could do to keep my mouth shut.

Recent Fun Stuff

I am noticing how unfun my blog has been lately. Here are some pictures. Enjoy!

With Meghan in Marysville

Violent Femmes concert: They've still got it. The bass player (far right) also plays the conch shell, didjeridoo, gong, and other unusual instruments.

At Ledges State Park in Iowa

Ledges

Isaac and Candass at Ledges.

The Berliner Bear: Kansas City's only exclusively German restaurant. VERY kitsch. I am thinking about having my graduation party there.

Saw a great new movie at my new favorite theater in KC (OP technically). For anyone interested, it is about a guy who has difficulty distinguishing dreams from reality. As a result, so does the audience. Excellent cinematography.

A Beatles print from The Bohemian Gallery. I went to First Friday last night with P.T, Tina, and Mimi.

First Day VA Impressions

I started my rotation in Leavenworth at the VA (Veterans) hospital today. I spent ALL DAY in orientation and computer training, which was rather painful. I haven't seen any patients yet, but my preceptor seems really cool. I think it will be a good month. My goal is to decide if I want to work for the VA as a pharmacist or if I don't. I will know soon. I'm so excited!

Cons:
The pay is below average (for pharmacists anyway)
The good, clinical jobs are difficult to get, so I would HAVE to do a residency
There are a lot of weird little differences like having to take an oath on my first day
The hospital smells like feet
The place I get lunch is in the "dom" where I dine with psych patients and recovering addicts. Some of them are homeless and just need a place to stay. An anonymous friend of mine got her butt grabbed there. Ewww!
Most of the patients are men, so less diversity
Doing anything takes longer than it should because of all the bureaucracy

Pros:
I get my own office this month
Pharmacists have authority to write prescriptions (I crave power)
I'm planning to do a residency anyway
There are a lot of weird little differences like the fact that there are only 30 or so inpatient beds
The place is really really old and has cool architecture. There is a hallway I particularly like and will try to post a picture of.
Lunch is free, and I didn't get bothered today. Then again I was dining with my classmate, who is a dude.
The benefits are great and they pay back $50,000 in student loans

Today I'm leaning towards VA.
