Oldie But A Goodie

I can't believe my blog is almost 3 years old. Crazy. With the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament upon us again, I was reminded of this post from February 2006:

This tripped me up for a long time. I would hear people talk about Sasha Kaun and in my mind's eye picture an ice princess. (Un?)fortunately that's not a problem anymore.

Tasty, Young Jackfruit

Yesterday evening I enjoyed an interesting and exotic meal with some friends from MeetIn. A group of 9 of us met at the cleverly named "Indonesia Restaurant". Despite the fact that I only recognized one thing on the menu (satay), it was delicious. I ordered the "tasty, young jackfruit" and I suppose it lived up to its name. I enjoy a bizarre meal every so often.

Best quote of the night:
"What did you say about my grass jelly?"
"I'm not really into it."

P.S. My favorite of the desserts involved green beans, tapioca, and coconut milk.

India Update

I got a phone call from India the other night. The village (5000 people) is called Vellatur. As a side note, it was early morning there. There is a 9.5 hour time difference. I had no idea that there were time zones on this planet with a 0.5 hour difference. Very strange. Anyway, they had gotten up extra early to speak with me. I mostly talked with Rachel, a volunteer from Britain (I'm guessing from her accent). She had a lot of helpful information, including the recommendation that I buy saris and wear those while I'm in India. That could be fun, but I might feel like a complete tool. We'll see. I also spoke briefly with the pastor, who has a huge vision and a lot going on. The kids screamed hello to me, and some other stuff I couldn't quite understand. This is going to be awesome.

India

I have always been drawn to India for various reasons. This summer I'm getting a chance to go! My friend, George, has been planning a trip to an orphanage to teach English and I'm planning to go too. I will also be teaching English and hopefully helping out with medical issues. The details haven't entirely been worked out, but I think we'll go for 6 weeks or so. Things have really been working out. My new job has agreed to let me start Sept. 2. I'm super excited/a little scared. I have a recurring nightmare about public bathrooms, and I had an Indian version of the dream the other night. This will be interesting.

Oh yeah! In other news I have a new job lined up in Wichita. I think I'm really gonna like it and I get to work with one of my good friend from pharmacy school, Corey AKA CMac. The VA in Wichita is hiring a bunch of new pharmacists; I think 6 or 8. They are starting up a new pharmacist-run metabolic disease state management clinic. We will mostly see patients for diabetes, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure. I get to prescribe! (little nervous about that). Plus, since it's for the federal government the benefits are hard to beat. So, in the almost month since I last posted, there's been a lot going on.
