Bad Trip
The Buzz (96.5) has a contest called "Trippin' Thursday." They send people places to see concerts. This week they had two trips in one. The first one was tickets to see the Dave Matthews Band in St. Louis (which to be honest I could take or leave) and the second was the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Weezer (I love them!) in Las Vegas. Also, they threw in tickets to a Star Trek themed restaurant and bar.
People were calling in to qualify and the DJs would ask them impossible questions about Star Trek. "What is Captain Kirks' middle name?" None of the first few callers knew. But eventually, a whole bunch of Trekkies called in and actually knew. So, the DJs were discussing that they had a huge demographic of nerds listening. One of them said "Who can name all of the Golden Girls?" Thanks to Mimi I CAN name all of the Golden Girls, first name and last, as well as the actresses' names who play them.
So I called in... Much to my surprise, my call actually got through! "Danny Boi" answered, I explained that I could name the Golden Girls. He laughed and put me on hold. A couple of minutes later, Afentra (the host) picked up and I told her that I wanted to go to Vegas and that I could name the Girls. She too laughed and put me back on hold until the end of the song, when she would put me on the air. I was so excited that I was visibly shaking and my head was pounding.
Right about then, my phone dropped the call. Yeah. I was slightly T.O.'ed. So close! Yet so, so far....
Maybe next week my dreams of minor (incredibly minor) celebrity will be realized. Thank you Cingular Wireless.

Perfect plan for a free new cell phone AND one year of free service:
1. Call any service provider other than cingular and tell them part of your story.
2. Tell them that you would be willing to contribute it as a kick butt testimonial to why you switched, for the SMALL concession that you get a new phone (standard for switching anyway right?) and a year of paid service.
3. Call Cingular and tell them about part 1 and 2.
4. Tell cingular that you would be willing to stay with them if they will get you a new phone to replace your current one, and a year of service. (if they say something about black mail or coersion or some crud like that, tell them, ok, guess I'm changing services and hang up.)
5. Pick whichever service you prefer or whoever will give you the better service.
6. Put on your favorite weezer cd, give someone a call on the new phone, and enjoy not having to be around all those crazy people that always come to concerts (and all their feet, ick!).

Frankly, I'm just a little surprised, and more than a little concerned that you would actually KNOW the character names, and actors names of the Golden Girls. thas scary

Wow. What a bummer. I'm sorry that you're dropped call costed you a trip to Vegas. Vegas, baby, VEGAS!!!!
